Project Linus
Contact: Dayton Project Linus is in our Facebook group and can be contacted there.
Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. We accept new, handmade, washable blankets for children 0-18 years of age. For knitted (or crocheted) afghans, please use washable acrylic yarn (no wool or other natural fibers due to potential allergies). For baby size, please make sure that the weave is tight (free of holes larger than ½ inch). Weave in all ends with at least an inch or 2 of yarn. Blankets should be a minimum size of 36 inches by 36 inches (finished), and we typically could always use more child and teen sized blankets (no larger than twin sized).
Approximate sizes: Baby/Toddler: 36 inches x 36 - 40 inches, Child/Pre-teen: 40-45 inches x 50-60 inches, and Teen: 50 inches x 70 inches. You can drop off finished blankets at any one of our collection sites: JoAnn Fabric and Crafts in Beavercreek, Centerville, and Trotwood as well as Needle, Ink, and Thread in Kettering. Thank-you!
Ohio's Hospice of Dayton
The hospice house has 55 bedrooms and is located on Wilmington Ave in Dayton. The hospice blesses each patient with a lap blanket to brighten up the room. These blankets are then given to the families in memorial. Ms. Simpson's only preferences for volunteer knitters and crocheters are that the blankets be approximately 42 inches by 36 inches (or larger, if interested), not scratchy (so patients remain comfortable), and not all black (to give them something cheery). Blankets are given to both male and female patients. Blankets can be dropped off at the hospice anytime or we can arrange a bulk pick-up with a volunteer from the hospice. The hospice is honored by any donations we can provide now and in the future.
